The Pollença Air Show

Aeròdrom Militar Pollença Mallorca

Mallorca’s secluded airport, the Aeròdrom Militar de Pollença is a military airfield which was built during the Spanish Civil War in 1937. It serves not much of a purpose nowadays apart from the occasional fire fighting campaign when there is a forest fire somewhere in Mallorca or Menorca. Sadly, there are too many of those forest fires, often caused by arson, to consider to disband the Bombardier CL-415 fleet of forest fire fighters stationed there. Yesterday, the airfield had one of its occasional Days of Open Doors, which included an impressive display of flight manoeuvres, rescue operations and parachute jumps of remarkable accuracy.
